In recent years, a waitlisted decision is more like a rejection. Competition has just become a lot tougher and admissions offices only hand out a waiting list to assure themselves of back-up enrollment. Top schools such as Cornell and Princeton may accept only a handful or even none of those in the waiting list. They want to retain the feeling of exclusivity. So, is it time to look elsewhere?

Focus on schools that accepted you.
Look at the colleges that handed you acceptance letters readily. If one of them turns out to be a fit then maybe it is time to ditch the college that gave you the waiting list decision.
