Sample Admission Essay for Nursing School: Work and discipline

“Anything in life worth having is worth working for” was the words of wisdom of a Scottish-American businessman named Andrew Carnegie. He was right. All the things worth having in this life are those which you have to work hard for. At a young age, I was taught by my parents that I have to work hard to get what I want. I did, and now I’m doing it again.

Our family was a typical middle-class family. My parents were compassionate, hard-working individuals who dedicated themselves in providing only the best life not only for their children but also for their community. They worked double-time just to put me through college and I did not disappoint them because I finished college just on time.

I immediately landed a corporate job after graduation. It was a good job. It provided me with just the right benefits and security that I needed to support my family but it was not very fulfilling. The image of a person sitting in front of a desk all day was surely not how the 7-year-old me pictured when I was asked who I wanted to be when I grow up. Despite the stability and comfort that my job gave, I was not happy. I left my job and I began focusing on becoming the person I want myself to be.

I wanted to make myself useful to our community so I signed-up as a volunteer at our local hospital. The only duties that I performed included organizing medical records and assessing test results, but I’ve never been so satisfied in my life. I was blown away by the energy of the hospital and the satisfaction I get from making a difference in other people’s life. That’s when I knew that being a nurse practitioner is my calling.

Being a nurse is not easy. It is physically and emotionally draining as referenced by the long shifts and the ill patients. Most nurses are not also given the credit that they deserve for dedicating their lives in taking care of others. Despite all these, I’m still determined to become a nurse because of the opportunity to touch more lives. I want to offer the best possible emotional and medical care to my patients. I also believe that the role of nurses go beyond checking temperatures or changing sheets. Nurses are role models not only to their patients but also to the entire community and I will commit myself to living a healthy lifestyle to live up to the reputation.

Like most nursing graduates, I will forward to work in a large hospital after graduation. I will work very hard to learn everything I’m supposed to learn to become a reliable and competent  medical practitioner. After gaining enough working experience, I’ll move on to depressed areas to provide medical services to the people with very limited opportunity for medical care. I will work not only as a nurse who will provide first aid treatment or take blood pressures but also as a teacher who will give pointers on the importance of health and medicine. I strongly believe that medical care must be given not only to those who can afford it but also to those who actually need it.

Faith and service is my school’s motto and I guess I have
lived with the fact that if you are a nurse you should consider yourself as a
servant to people. Catering to people’s needs is the essential role of a nurse.
I never thought that I would end up becoming one because I thought that I will
never be that person taking care of other people.
I studied this course because my parent’s wanted me to
become a nurse, thinking some day that I will give them a comfortable life with
my profession. I never wanted to become one but in the long run in studying I
began to love what I do. I see patients that need utmost care and I find
treating and caring for them worth my while. I always feel like that every time
I give them what they need, I ease their pain and they become a better person
    which makes them heal faster.
Being a nurse is not an easy task, it is like a doctor with
lots of responsibilities. A nurse caters to the patients and to the doctors as
well, we cater to the needs of everyone in the hospital. That is why I always believe
in the saying that nursing is caring. Becoming a nurse means a lot of
responsibility, you need to be responsible for what you act on and you need to
    be responsible for others too.
A nurse alleviates the suffering of others, they relieve
one’s pain and most of all they protect a person from experiencing further
pain. These are the elements that one should consider in becoming a nurse. It
is not that easy to become one but if you dedicate yourself you will be. After
all nursing is not a mere profession, it is a calling.

Going to a college is a privilege for most students after
graduating from high school. You are fortunate if your parents are well off, or
if you have someone who would finance your schooling through college. I believe
that college is the most important part of your life because in this stage you
begin to know what you want in the future. You mold your personality and you
begin to know who you really are during this stage.
I was lucky that my grandparents where well of and send me
to a good school. I never knew that I would finish it and make it through my
college days. I was never a good student, I was always late and I lack skills
such as making homework’s and projects during my high school life. But when I entered college I was amazed of
myself because I had put on extra efforts to make myself a better student. Then
I realized that I was beginning to be a better person than before.
During my college days, I was trying to be a good student
than I was before and I did. I finished college with the help of a lot of
people and I had friends that made me stronger. I earned a lot during my
college days, I earned respect from the people around me and to the people I
have worked with. But the most important thing that I earned during my college
days was that I become the person whom I think I never would imagine it to be.
I learn to be independent and I paid my way through the hard days of college
life. I become the person whom I wanted to be, a person with his own mind and
    takes in responsibilities for others.
We should always realize what we wanted for ourselves and
through this realization we take in responsibilities that make us a better
person. Through education we never stop learning from it and we never stop
    realizing what we really are.
