Making College Application Essays Emotionally Appealing
In order to obtain entry to the college that you want, you should create an emotional impact on the admissions committee through your college application essay. My U Search has many helpful tips on how to make your college application essay emotionally appealing.
Showcase your strengths
You have to determine your strengths. What abilities do you possess? How can these abilities help you achieve success?
Demonstrate analytical skills and logical thinking in the essay. By showing a keen, rational understanding of basic issues, students can produce more clear and coherent results. Especially since college application essays are often the first point of contact between the student and the admissions committee, it’s essential that it unmistakably highlights the academic strengths and character of the student.
You don’t have to include all the strengths you think you posses. Just choose a few that you believe are relevant to your application. When you write about your strengths, make sure that you state them in a way that would not make you sound boastful. Include instances and events in your life which highlight your strengths.
Include your weaknesses
Your good points are not the only ones to be included in your personal statement. You also need to include your weaknesses. However, you should only incorporate weaknesses if you think you can use them to show a better side. For instance, you can write about the bad things that came your way because of your weaknesses. However, make sure to end it with your traits and skills that helped you surpass the obstacles, and the lessons you’ve learned from such obstacles. Take a look at the tips from Business Week:
Before you even think about writing your essays, you should take time for serious self-reflection by focusing on your strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations. Try to look at yourself objectively and contemplate what you’d be bringing to a business school and where B-school might help you improve.
You have to use the weaknesses and obstacles in order to show to the admissions panel how strong you are. Turn things around by making these weaknesses the strength of your essay.
Talk about your plans
You should also talk about your plans for your future. Talk about your short-term and your long-term goals. As a matter of fact, certain schools may have specific essay questions about an applicant’s goals, just like this one as discussed by Veritas Prep:
Describe your short-term and long-term career goals. What is your motivation for pursuing an MBA now and how will UCLA Anderson help you to achieve your goals? (750 words)
(This question carries over unchanged from last year, and should be approached the same as most other Career Goals or Why an MBA? essays.)
This blog gives tips on how you can use your passion to make your essay notable.
You should generally talk about your academic interest, the motivating factor behind your choice of course and some activities or achievements that is in line with that. Or if appropriate, you could talk about the kind of books you read. After which you can include some of your other interests and the reason for your choice of study setting. And depending on your preferences, you could end with an appeal for an offer.
Highlighting your passion is a great way to show to the admissions panel how motivated you are. It can also let the admissions panel see a more personal side of you.
Making your essay emotionally appealing is one of the best ways to grab the attention of the admissions panel. To do this, you need to highlight your strengths, use your weaknesses to your advantage, and talk about your plans and goals.

This article is probably one of the most insightful out of all those that are posted in this category. It gives a realistic view on how to make your application essay and make it appeal to the panel. It shows that not only do you need to be sincere and honest in your application essay but rather; you must also make it emotionally appealing to them. You have to showcase to them, with the power of your words, your talents and abilities as person and as a student. You need to show them your views and thoughts about the current issues that the world is currently facing, for example, what are your views in regards to the recent medical health bill of U.S President Obama? What are your thoughts about the current economic crises of Greece, Portugal and the current downfall of the value of Euro in the foreign exchange market? These are just some questions, in which you can provide more insight and information in so that the panel will most likely be impressed.
However, you must also be honest to yourself. Being human, no matter how good you are at some things, there will always be activities and fields in which you do not really excel in. Do you have problems in relation to math? Do you hate numbers? Are you not as athletically inclined as your peers? Show them your weaknesses, and capitalize on these weaknesses of yours and show them how willing you are to cope up and cover these weaknesses of yours in so that you will be stronger and a much better person. You also need to show them your plans and ambitions in life. Do you want to have a doctorate degree someday? Do you intend to take up law? These people are after students who have ambitions and goals in life. They want students who are driven, determined and goal-oriented.
