Kent State University is a research university found in Kent, Ohio. The university was established in 1910 as a teacher training school known at that time as Kent Normal School. Kent’s campuses are scattered in the northeast Ohio region, in Kent, Ashtabula, Burton, New Philadelphia, Salem, East Liverpool, Warren, and North Canton Ohio. The main and the largest campus is the one in Kent, Ohio.
As of January 2010, the enrollment in the University is 38,196 and about 24,449 i from the Kent campus. Given its student population, Kent State is among the largest universities in the state of Ohio.
Degrees offered
Kent State University offers various undergraduate and graduate programs. The university offers more than 200 majors and minors. The colleges include the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Communication and Information, College of Education, Health, and Human Services, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, College of Technology, Honors College, College of Arts, and College of Business Administration. The university also offers continuing and distance education, as well as associate, masters degree, and doctoral programs.
Alumni
As of 2010, Kent State University has more of less 196,000 alumni. The most notable ones include Drew Carey, host of “Price is Right,” comedian Arsenio Hall, actresses Alice Ripley and Alaina Reed Hall, singers Chrissie Hynde and Jeff Timmons, 98 degrees member. In politics, its famous alumni include George Petak of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania state representative Allen Kukovich. Terrence O’Donnell, Supreme Court of Ohio justice, and Nancy Hollister, Lieutenant Governor and former representative also graduate from the school. Some of the very popular athletes also came from Kent State University. The list includes National Football League players Joshua Cribbs, Antonio Gates, James Harrison, and Usama Young.
Rankings and reviews
The Carnegie Foundation ranked Kent State University as one of the top 77 public research universities in the country and also one of the top 76 in community engagement.
