Admissions Guide to Kansas State University
Kansas is considered as one of America’s “cutting-edge schools.” It is the only school in the Big 12 to make the cut in Kaplan Publishing’s “You Are Here: A Guide to Over 380 Colleges and Unlimited Paths to Your Future.” Kansas State University was established in 1858, upon the foundation of Bluemont Central College. It is actually the first college in the US to be considered as a land-grant school. It started with just 53 enrollees, but by the year 2004, Kansas State University had 23,000 enrollees from 50 states and more than 90 countries.

Degrees offered
Kansas State University offers many degree programs through its various colleges. The colleges of the University includes Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration, Education, Agriculture, Human Ecology, Architecture Planning and Design, Veterinary Medicine, and Technology and Aviation. Kansas State University also offers graduate study programs and has 65 masters degrees, 45 doctoral degrees, and 22 graduate certificates in various disciplines. For the undergraduate majors, there are 250 and more majors to choose from. The University is also home to many organizations with more than 450 student organizations and over 20 club sports. The University allots more than $175 million annually for scholarships and loans.
Alumni
Kansas State University takes pride in its most distinguished alumni. Some of the famous ones include Erin Brockovich, an environmental activist who was the inspiration of the movie of the same name, starring Julia Roberts. There is also the US senator from Kansas, Pat Roberts. Another graduate from the University is Gen. Richard Myers, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Kansas State University is among the top state universities in the country, winning many major academic competitions. Kansas State University is a recipient of various honors and awards in the academic field. In 2009, it was granted the Creative Use of Technology Award from the Association for Continuing Higher for K-State’s Distance Learning Video Gallery. Many professors and students from the University also won honors and awards because of their distinguished contributions in their respected fields.
