Emory University takes pride in its academic excellence. The institution also boasts of its excellent facilities as a private research university situated in the metropolitan Atlanta area in Druid Hills, Georgia. The University was actually founded by a Methodist Group as Emory College, taken after the Methodist bishop John Emory. The school had undergone financial difficulties but was saved by the Asa Candler, the president of the Coca Cola Company through a generous land-grant. The college then moved to DeKalb County and became known as Emory University.

The Emory University School of Law was then founded in 1916 and became known simply as ELS or Emory Law. A first-tier law school in the US, Emory Law is housed in Gambrell Hall in the 630-acre campus of the Emory University. Is publications include the Emory Law Journal, Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal, and the Emory International Law Review. ABA-approved, it is included in the list of top 30 law schools in the US as ranked by the US News and World Report.

Degrees offered

Emory Law offers 3-year, full-time J.D. programs. It specializes in many different fields such as Environmental Law, Bankruptcy Law, Intellectual Property Law, Law and Religion, Feminist Legal Theory, and International Law

Its LL.M. programs are available for US law degree-holders who want to specialize in international politics and international commercial law. For foreign students or legal professionals from other countries, an LL.M. program for international and comparative law training is also available.

The joint degree programs of Emory Law include JD/MBA (with the Goizueta Business School), JD/PhD (with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences), JD/MPH (with the Rollins School of Public Health), JD/MTS and JD/MDiv (with the Candler School of Theology), and JD/REES Certificate (with the Center for Russian and East European Studies).

Rankings and reviews

Based on the 2011 edition of the US News and World Report, Emory Law makes it to the list of top 30 ABA-approved law schools at number 22. Vault.com also said that Emory Law is the “most underrated” US law school based on a study in 2007.

The Law School, like other prestigious institutions, has a highly selective admissions process. In fact, only 23% were accepted based on the 2007-2008 stats for admission. Emory Law values diversity as reflected through its student population, with 32% of students coming from ethnic groups. Almost 50% are women, while about 60% come from other states, other than the Southeastern US.

Admission tips

Passing the LSAT exam and meeting the GPA requirements are not enough to ensure admission to the prestigious Emory Law. What you should do is to prepare an excellent personal statement for law school that will best highlight your unique characteristics, values, and goals.
